Mark Shand Speaks in Department Colloquium

Mark Shand of Google spoke to the faculty and students on Thurday, 21 January 2016, as part of the department colloquium series. His entertaining talk was on the Google Car project -- a self-driving car. He focused on the Lidar technology used by the self-driving car to sense its environment. He also described how the software processes the enormous quantities of data collected by Lidar, radar, and video cameras to classify objects (both moving and unmoving) and to predict actions, dangerous situations, etc. It was a facinating insight into the mind of a self-driving car.
