On 15 October 2013, Prof. Michael Rice was appointed Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems. In this new role, his responsibilities include assisting the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Lance Kaplan, in investigating matters of plagiarism, adjudication of disputed editor decisions, editor appointments, quality control, and selection of the M. Barry Carlton Award. Dr. Kaplan cited Prof. Rice's ""excellent service as a technical editor,"" his ""excellent attitude toward the overall review and publication process"" and his publication record as the basis for the appointment.
Prof. Rice has served as the Technical Editor for Command, Control, and Communication for the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems for the past 6 years.
