Jana Featherstone began working at BYU in 2017 and joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2021. She currently serves as the Graduate and First-Year Academic Advisor, where she supports students in navigating their academic paths and preparing for future opportunities. She holds a Master of Science in Academic Advising from Kansas State University and a bachelor’s degree from Weber State University.
Jana’s advising philosophy is rooted in Nancy Schlossberg’s Theory of Mattering and Marginality and Carol Dweck’s Growth Mindset theory. She is committed to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where students feel valued, empowered, and encouraged to grow through effort and resilience. She is passionate about education and dedicated to helping her students succeed both academically and personally for years to come.
Outside of work, Jana enjoys reading, attending community events, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two children. Her favorite BYU ice cream flavor is Graham Canyon.
