Dr. Hawkins Appointed As Department Chair

The college of engineering and technology has appointed Dr. Aaron Hawkins as the chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, effective June 1, 2018. He will be the chair for a period of three years.

Dr. Hawkins joined the department in 2002. Before joining the faculty, Aaron Hawkins was a co-founder of Terabit Technology in Santa Barbara, California, and later worked as an engineer for CIENA and Intel. He is a member of the IEEE, OSA, APS, and serves as Editor-in-Chief for the IEE Journal of Quantum Electronics. He has worked on over 300 technical papers, and was the co-editor of the Optofluidics Handbook. He also co-authored the textbook Practically Magic, A Guide to Electrical and Computer Engineering. He directs BYU's cleanroom facility, co-directs the IMMERSE program, and is a member of the Cancer Research Center.

The department is proud to honor him as its new chair.
