As part of ABET accreditation standards, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites professionals in academia and industry to come and advise the curriculum, student experiences, and alumni engagement of the department, then provide feedback on opportunities for improvement. The board meets once per year.
Allyson Gibson, the External Relations Manager of the department, said about the board, “They meet and talk about the ABET requirements and make sure we’re on track with that, that the curriculum is meeting the needs of the students and the industry, and that the programs are what they need to be in order to educate the students well.”
As well-experienced professionals themselves, the members of the board provide helpful feedback on the current standards and practices. Many of the members are executive-level employees of local engineering companies. Additionally, most of the members are BYU alumni.
