This year, UVU's Ethics Week was Monday 21 September - 24 September 2015. Prof. Rice was invited to participate in Session Four, featuring a panel discussion on "Intercultural Business Ethics." He served on the panel with Prof. John Hooker, Holleran Professor of Business Ethics and Social Change, Carnegie Mellon University and Sophie Heying Lu-Seng, Philosophy and Humanities Department, UVU.
The panel discussion followed the keynote address by Prof. John Hooker of CMU. Prof. Hooker's address tackled the problem of corruption in business and outlined the different modes of corruption in different ethical and cultural norms.
The Center for the Study of Ethics is an academic organization serving the campus of Utah Valley University and the Utah County community. The aim of the Ethics Center is to provide a forum in which a variety of ethical issues can be discussed in an atmosphere of openness and impartiality. The Center seeks to promote the Jeffersonian ideal of an educated citizenry by bringing diverse voices together in thoughtful and productive dialogue.
The Center for the Study of Ethics promotes the study of interdisciplinary ethics at UVU by offering regular and special events designed to foster community, student and faculty discussions of ethics.
The driving philosophy is centered on the belief that ethics is a dimension of academic inquiry rather than an isolated philosophical discipline.
