Fishing with Fraser
Cleanroom manager by day–fisherman by night. Well, make that fisherman by dusk, because that’s when the catfish bite best. Jim Fraser, a member of our staff in BYU Electrical and Computer Engineering, is being featured on KSL Outdoors for his success with catfishing in Utah Lake.
New BYU research aiming to do what FAA can’t — track low-flying drones
Dr. Cammy Peterson and her team at BYU have developed a novel radar-based drone tracking system that can effectively monitor low-altitude airspace, addressing the challenges posed by the increasing number of drones. This technology represents a significant advancement in managing drone traffic and ensuring safety in congested airspaces.
No Hardware? No Problem! Remote ID for Older Drones
Drones have been a fast-spreading and useful technology; they take pictures, video, can be used to transport things, and so much more. But technology changes fast–and often comes new regulations. Many older drones do not have the ability to transmit remote ID telemetry data, which is now required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and includes information like location, velocity, heading, and drone identification.
