Insight from an Intel Intern
Intel Corporation is one of the largest semiconductor chip manufacturers in the world. The Silicon Valley-based company is well-respected and many engineers would agree that working there would be a life-altering opportunity. For Stephanie Carlson, an Electrical Engineering student at BYU, her dream of working at Intel recently became a reality. Stephanie joined Intel as an Intern, working with fifty other interns and full-time employees in Oregon. “I really like it a lot,” says Stephanie. “This is my first internship ever, so it’s definitely very different than working an average minimum-wage job. It’s a lot more challenging, but also a lot more engaging and interesting. I think it’s been really good for me.”
Gideon Secures a Future Career
If you have a passion for discovering how things work or you like finding creative solutions to problems, you may be just like Gideon Stowell, a student of Computer Engineering at Brigham Young University. Gideon’s fascination with all things computers inspired him to take many Computer Science courses as he began working towards his bachelor’s degree. “When I took CS 142 during my third semester at BYU, it really piqued my interest in computer engineering. It’s been developing over time ever since.”
The Value of an Early Internship
Internships can play a valuable role in preparing for a career in engineering. For Sharisse Bevan, a junior in Electrical Engineering at Brigham Young University, landing a job as an intern at Vivint Smart Home offered her the opportunity to learn valuable skills on the job.
